Web Analytics and Website Statistics
DID YOU WAKE UP THIS MORNING WONDERING, “WHAT IS WEB ANALYTICS, ANYWAYS?” NEITHER DID WE, BUT WE’LL TELL YOU. THE WEB ANALYTICS ASSOCIATION DEFINES IT AS “THE OBJECTIVE TRACKING, COLLECTION, MEASUREMENT, REPORTING AND ANALYSIS OF QUANTITATIVE INTERNET DATA TO OPTIMIZE WEB SITES AND MARKETING INITIATIVES.”
Forget about randomly advertising and praying it works. Web analytics isn’t like picking out a watermelon at the market and hoping it’s ripe. Web analytics makes sure that your advertising tastes juicy and fresh every time. You can know from what sites your visitors are coming, the browsers visitors use, how to decrease the number of canceled purchases, and why visitors leave your site. And thousands of other questions! (Although web analytics cannot tell you where to find Big Foot or if UFOs are for real.)
Introduction to Web Analytics
Web analytics help you get hip with website trends and know if your investment is paying off. You can tell what people do on your website, and if snags on the site keep visitors from completing a purchase, for example. Want to know if search engine optimization, paid advertising and such are working? Web analytics can do that, too. It’s like a little marketing genie in a bottle, we like to think.
Sharing all this info with your sales and marketing departments can help them do their jobs sooo much better. That’ll really make your apples shine.
- Web Analytics Step 1: Determine Needs
You need to build the bottom like; they need to find a product, information or do something else. If you can figure out how to best need visitors’ needs, everybody’s happy.
- Web Analytics Step 2: Identify Goals
If you shoot at nothing, you’re sure to get it, as the old adage goes. So you need to figure out what your site’s goals are. Improve new sales by 10 percent this quarter? Increase each sale by 15 percent? Or maybe grow sales to existing clients by 10 percent?
- Web Analytics Step 3: Implement Analytics and Measure
Once you’ve identified your website’s goals, implement web analytics to measure those goals.
